The brief is to introduce a new and innovative brand personality into a product market by designing a new packaging item. THE DESIGNED PRODUCT PACKAGE MUST : (1) minimises consumer waste, The final solution should either incorporate minimal gluing, or none. It must be easily assembled and utilize as little resources as possible. (2) satisfies the product’s needs (3) appeals to the target audience (4) clearly differentiates itself from the competitors through a fresh language of design.
The name Melsus is short for Melisseus.
Melisseus was the rustic Daimon (Spirit) of honey and the art of beekeeping.
The logo is design to be simple and clean using a hexagon shape to resembles a honeycomb cell and a sans serif font with a grainnt feel to give out a crafty hand-done natural feel. The flowers, honeycomb and bees decorative pattern is done to be appealing to women and style-conscious buyers while the flower makes you know that it is suitable for tea when you see it. Also, the pattern is put on the seed package to show the association of flowers and honey.
The Melsus honey jar is design to look like and is inspired by the shape of a beehive. The white colour of the jar gives out a sophisticated and clean look while the cork lid gives the essence of being organic and natural. The piece of cloth and jute also resembles the “naturalness” of the product. Every material used for this product is recyclable and the jar is design to be appealing as a honey jar and a flower pot.
The tag of the product will be filled with flower seeds wrapped in foil so that consumers can re-use the jar as a flower pot. The tag package will be glueless and will be made out recycle paper and will provide steps of growing the plant as well. The puns on the package are there to cheer up tea drinkers or anyone who opened the package to set them into a happy mood for the day.
The reason this is different from the other products is that it provides a reuse function as a flower pot that helps bees( which is the main source of honey ) to produce more honey. This helps makes the cycle of creating honey easier for them and the producers. Every material used for creating this package is recyclable.
